1985 - 1999
Between 1985 and 1999 the orphanage received funding and practical and administrative assistance from a number of different international charities and aid agencies. During this time the management structure of the Home changed many times.
In 1999 this vital assistance was abruptly withdrawn due to circumstances beyond Lesotho's borders and the staff were all given 30 days notice. Although this would essentially have left the children to fend for themselves the staff did not abandon the children as some stayed on and worked without pay.
On the 4th December 1999 Ebenezer Malie, who was from Moletsane, approached professional and business people in near-by Mohale's Hoek and asked for help for the children of Mants'ase. He returned that afternoon with Danny and Anne Bothma. Anne recalled that when she, Danny and Ebenezer arrived at Mants'ase that afternoon it was to find that supplies had run out, that the children had not eaten for two days and that the buildings were in a dilapidated state.
Staff members who recall that day have stated that the last day on which the children of Mants'ase went without food was Friday the 3rd of December 1999, and that from the day Ntate Ebenezer Malie went to Mohale's Hoek and came back with the Bothmas, nobody at Mants'ase has ever gone without food again.
